As we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, I feel there is an invitation not only to remember that incredible moment when the disciples were gathered together, confused, afraid and unsure of what was ahead, and how they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in many tongues. It is also an invitation to recognise how Pentecost is living within us today.
The same Spirit that came with wind and fire was not given only for that one moment in history; the Spirit continues to move in our hearts now. The Spirit meets us in our own uncertainty, fear and searching, and gently transforms us with courage, wisdom and peace. Pentecost reminds us that God is never distant from our struggles. Even in moments when we feel lost or unable to find the words, the Holy Spirit is present, breathing life where we feel tired, giving clarity where we feel uncertain, and opening us to speak and act with love.
To live Pentecost is to allow that Spirit to dwell within us: to become people of compassion, reconciliation and hope; to trust that God can work through our ordinary lives; and to be open enough to say yes when the Spirit leads us beyond fear into faith. Pentecost is not only something we celebrate—it is something we are invited to become, carrying the fire of God’s love into our homes, our communities and the world.
I hope you will really celebrate this day with great Joy and feel the power of the Holy Spirit within you.
