Congratulations to Motunrayo (Mary) Ainenehi of Sacred Heart on winning the Aya Hachem 2026 Young Person of the Year Award. Mary is a former Head Girl of Sacred Heart School and is currently a Governor of the School. She is also an Intern in my office at THOMAS. This recognition reflects her outstanding leadership, dedication, and positive contribution to the community. The award celebrates young people who demonstrate exceptional character, service, and commitment to making a difference. As Mary prepares to begin her journey at medical school this autumn, we wish her well.
As a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, I am always encouraged to see leadership potential emerging in young people, particularly when it is demonstrated through service, resilience, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
In a world that often associates leadership with power, status, or authority, the example of Jesus offers a different perspective. Jesus taught that true leadership is rooted in service, humility, compassion, and a genuine concern for others. His model of leadership was not about being served, but about serving others and helping them to flourish.
With that in mind, we are launching a new group for young adults aged 18–25 called Young & Chosen, cultivating faith, resilience and leadership. We are looking for young adults to be part of a working group. Please email me at james.mccartney@dioceseofsalford.org.uk.
