This momentous occasion on 4th July 2025 commemorating the centenary of the laying of the foundation-stone at St Anne’s was marked by Bishop John celebrating Mass, a highlight of which was the enthusiastic hymn-singing by the children of the school who conducted themselves impeccably throughout; as the Bishop noted, their rendition of the opening hymn, “One More Step Along The World I Go”, set the positive joyful tone for the Eucharistic celebration which followed.
Bishop John in his usual succinct style offered everyone the challenge set out by the late Pope Francis to be ‘ambassadors for Christ’ in everything we do.
After the Mass the Bishop cut the ribbons to formally open the newly-created prayer-garden and the school chapel. Both facilities are most impressive and handsomely reflect the enormous amount of hard work done in preparation by school staff and volunteers so ably led by Lee Black. They all deserve our appreciative congratulations for their efforts.
Refreshments, including a special celebration cake, were provided in the school hall where there was also the opportunity to view a large selection of photographs evoking memories of parish life and former parishioners of the many years gone by.
A truly memorable day!
